Lineage
Collaborative piece by Andrea Hoelscher, Erica Hoelscher, and Kristin Hoelscher-Schacker
In the Victorian era, rituals and artwork related to mourning and death were elaborate and popular. Inspired by that aesthetic, we created this piece as a memorial to the often nameless branches of a family tree that are lost in childhood. The photograph below is an example of one of these nameless children from our family, lost before the era of modern medicine. In this piece we have created a shrine to these unknown children.
