Portfolio > Toying With Eternity

Toying with Eternity is a photographic series inspired by the Anthropocene. These images combine photographs made at fossil beds near the Ohio River in Indiana with images of contemporary fidget toys. The stones bear witness to early forms of life, with embedded spirals, patterns, and textures. The toys, made from fossil fuels, appear embedded within these surfaces, as if preserved alongside earlier life forms. They read like runes or unfamiliar symbols, suggesting artifacts from a distant past. By placing these trivial objects within geological time, the work reflects on the traces our culture may leave behind and questions the meaning of our legacy on this planet.
