Lineage
My father wrote in his memoir of the severe discipline meted out by his mother, Loretta, to adopted sisters in their household. The broken eggshells overlaying this image of Loretta represent her fractious temperament. The eggshells also tie to fertility as my father was her only natural child. In the months before my father died, he shared the rumors that Loretta and our grandfather gave away their first child born out of wedlock.
