In this photo from a Christmas in the 1970s my mother is shown holding a jacket she most likely got from my father, who was the photographer. She is sitting in a spot in the living room that was her favorite for decades. In her later years she spent hours and hours crocheting sweaters to donate to needy children, even as her mind began to decline from Alzheimer’s. Only after her death did I learn from my father of her long struggle with emotional pain and depression as well.
