1991-1996

As much as I love the realism of photography, I have always wanted to call it into question at the same time. In my early work I used paint and collage to make each photograph into a one-of-a-kind object imbued with texture and a sense of history or a story. These pieces are large, ranging from 30” x 40” to 5’ x 7’. Most are black-and-white fiber prints glued to canvas, with additions of acrylic or oil paint, tar, and collage of paper and other fibers. The figural works are self-portraits.
